Chris Brown: Probation Hearing Success
|
Tending to his all-important legal matters, Chris Brown made an appearance at the Criminal Courts in Los Angeles, California on Thursday (February 18).
Joined by his lawyer, Mark Geragos, the "Kiss Kiss" singer was dressed casually as he eased his way inside for a probation update hearing.
According to TMZ reports, Brown had performed 32 days of hard labor in Virginia, also having attended 17 of his 52 required domestic violence classes.
Making the judge happy with his compliance, Chris was granted an order permitting him to travel out of town between the dates of May 18 to June 27 for concert performances. |

J.K. Rowling Slapped with Lawsuit |
|
| |
|
| |
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is again facing plagiarism charges. Her name has now been added as a defendant in a lawsuit against her publishers. The suit, being brought in a London court by the estate of the English children's author Adrian Jacobs, alleges that she lifted concepts – wizard contests, wizard prisons, wizard hospitals, and wizard colleges – from his 1987 book "The Adventures of Willy the Wizard: No. 1 Livid Land" and used them in writing "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire."
The lawsuit was originally brought against Rowling's publisher, Bloomsbury |

Publishing, and her agent, Christopher Little (who was also Jacobs's agent). The Jacobs estate apparently had thought it was too late to sue Rowling, as "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire" was published in 2000. But now, they say, they have discovered "legal cause of action against [Rowling] within the last six years."
The Jacobs estate is calling the lawsuit "a billion-dollar case."
It's not the first time that Rowling, estimated to be the world's wealthiest author, has had to defend herself against charges of plagiarism. One prominent case involved a 2002 suit brought by American author Nancy Stouffer who claimed that her character "Larry Potter" bore a striking resemblance to Rowling's "Harry Potter." Stouffer lost her case and an appeal three years later.
Library Journal writer Lauren Barack called it right while discussing plagiarism charges against Rowling last year. "Given the success of Rowling's Potter series it seems unlikely that she'll stop being a lightning rod for suits of this nature," Barack wrote. "While her stories are hugely popular, they do mirror many archetypes and story arcs found in popular tales."
Rowling has never cited a single author's works as the inspiration for Harry Potter. In interviews at different times she has mentioned sources as diverse as Chaucer, Shakespeare, and "The Narnia Chronicles" by C.S. Lewis as influential to her. |

Justin Timberlake Is a Legit Designer |
|
|
Justin Timberlake is fast becoming a modern day Renaissance man...or Sean "Diddy" Combs.
Celebrity clothing lines can be legitimate and often lucrative businesses, but as for labels that actually have the fashion elite paying serious attention, well, those are few and far between. Or at least, they used to be.
Timberlake's William Rast showed at Cedar Lake last night during New York Fashion Week. Top editors like Anna Wintour turned up for the Americana-themed, denim-based line's presentation |

and flattering reviews are rolling in. New York magazine said he "classed up the operation" and used words like "sophisticated."
And Justin isn't the only A-lister making waves in the clothing industry...
Victoria Beckham and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also being toasted.
"Hers is a celebrity-spring collection that, in its infancy at least, is working, as indicated by its tight and ultraimpressive range of retailers," Women's Wear Daily says of Posh's latest collection, continuing by calling it "genuinely beautiful" and "the perfect dash of spice."
The same trade publication calls the Olsens' The Row collection, "serious, sophisticated clothes. They kept it modest with 20 mostly black looks…that were striking in their simplicity."
Industry experts were also positive about Khloé, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian's line for Bebe.
As for Combs, he was the first celebrity designer to win a major award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America --- Menswear Designer of the Year in 2004. Perhaps he won't be the last.

|
| |
|
| |
Listen up Lady Gaga! Shannen Doherty is a huge fan and willing to wear any crazy, over-the-top ensemble created by the pop star herself.
"I would wear anything she made, only if she was right next to my side," Doherty told PEOPLE at Tuesday's G-Star Raw runway fashion show in New York.
"If she walked in with me somewhere I'd do it!"

without caring about her critics.
"I think she fantastic and she's amazing," said Doherty.
"What she does, she does and I love that she doesn't care what others really think. She rocks it out with full confidence."
For her own everyday look, Doherty says she like to stick with comfort when it comes to her clothes. "My style really is whatever I feel comfortable wearing. That's my style. I'm all about the material and how it fits."
And for designer labels, the actress says has a few favorites but isn't all about the labels. "Some of my favorites are Zac Posen, who has some amazing collections right now, and I'm always a die hard Chanel girl always," she said.
"I like it because it's just classic. It doesn't get any better with Chanel." |

Angelina, Brad and Twins Play 'Tourist' in Venice |
|
| |
|
| |
You're never too young to play tourist if you're kin to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
After spending several months in Los Angeles – with a few weeks in New York – the international family of eight headed to Venice, Italy, on Monday, where Jolie is soon expected to begin shooting her upcoming thriller, The Tourist, with Johnny Depp.
Last week, Jolie went on a three-day trip to earthquake-ravaged Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic before joining Pitt and the kids for a long Valentine's Day weekend in Los Angeles. |

Friday turned out to be family night, with the entire Jolie-Pitt brood enjoying a sizzling dinner at a Benihana Japanese Steakhouse.
The next evening Pitt, 46, and Jolie, 34, stepped out for a private event at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. The family laid low on Valentine's Day Sunday – then jetted off to Venice on Monday.
It didn't take long for them to be spotted grabbing some ice cream while they took in their new, temporary home. Even the rarely-seen twins, Vivienne and Knox, were spotted in mom and dad's arms boarding a water taxi.
Should they return to their European base at Chateau Miraval during their stay, the family will be able to enjoy a new addition to the property: a 300-to-400-year-old olive tree purchased at English Garden Center in Opio, France, which is scheduled to be planted at Miraval this spring. |
